EQT - Welding Electrode Qualification Testing

- PURPOSE :
- This Procedure covers the requirement to carry out the necessary tests for the qualification of electrodes.
- SCOPE:
- This scope covers the qualification test requirements for the electrodes to be used for the project.

- METHODOLOGY:
- Details of Process for Groove Weld:
- * All electrodes shall be purchased in shield, containers and store properly to prevent deterioration. Different grades of electrodes shall be stored separately. The electrodes used shall be free from rust, oil, grease and other foreign matter which affect the quality of welding.
- * Before starting the welding, the surface of base metal to be welded shall be cleaned and pre-heated. Pre-heat temperature shall be 130o C to 175 degree celsius to be maintained. Minimum length test assembly shall be welded.
- Prior to welding, The assembly shall be preset to yield a welded joint sufficiently flats to facilitate removal of the test specimen, as an alternative, restraint or a combination of restraint and presetting shall be used to keep the welded with in edge of plane. A welded test assembly that is more that 50 out of plane shall be discarded.
- * Welding shall be in flat position using each type of current specified. But if DCEP and DCEN to be used, and then only DCEN needs to be tested. The joint root shall be seal welded with the electrodes using stringer beads. In addition to the stops and starts at the ends, each pass shall contain a stop and start in between the ends.
- * The completed welds shall be at least flush with the surface of the test plate. The weld passes per layer and total no. of layers shall carried out as ASME SEC-II PART-C Latest Revision. Submit batch test certificates from the electrode manufacturer.

- HEALTH SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENT:
- * The provided procedure for Health, Safety, & Environment shall be followed during execution. Hazard identification & risk assessment will be carried out & operational control measures shall be adopted during preparing the test pieces for electrode qualification test.
- ➢ It is to be noted that the special care to be adopted against snake / insects bite.
- ➢ Safety Shoe, Helmet and nose mask is a must in this activity.
- ➢ Fire protection system shall be provided & handled carefully.
- ➢ Only trained personnel to be deployed for this activity.
- ➢ All Measuring & Test Equipment’s used must be well maintained.
- ➢ All lifting devices & Tools used shall be well maintained and approved by a competent authority.
- QUALITY ASSURANCE & QUALITY CONTROL:
- *Quality Assurance shall be maintained by ensuring the systematic implementation of this procedure and ensure that necessary quality records are generated as appended to this procedure.
