VACUUM BOX TESTING / BUBBLE LEAK TESTING SERVICES

  • vacuum box has been designed for the operators and to API 650/653 recommendations. Bubble leak (or vacuum box) testing is an integral part of tank inspections as required by the American Petroleum Institute (API) and other international standards associations to establish the condition of tank bottom plate welds and shell-to-bottom plate welds.
  •
  • Bubble leak testing or vacuum box testing, is an integral part of a tank inspection process as recommended by API and other international standards to establish the condition of a tank bottom plate weld or shell to bottom plate weld.
  •
  • The latest edition to Silverwing’s vacuum box range is the V750 which has been completely redesigned with the operator and API 650 / 653 inspection standards in mind.
  •
  • The design incorporates a 750 mm weld inspection length, extremely rugged body, calibrated vacuum gauge and vacuum relief valve, internal LED’s to ensure correct visibility along the test weld and a new seal designed to maximise efficiency and reduce operator fatigue.
  •
    VACUUM GAUGE AND RELIEF VALVE

  • The V750 has an industrial vacuum gauge rated to 30 in Hg as well as a calibrated vacuum relief valve. The use of a calibrated vacuum relief valve ensures the correct vacuum is generated as recommended by international standards.
  •
  • The advantage of the relief valve is once the required vacuum has been generated (20 or 10 inch Hg) the relief valve opens. This maintains the required vacuum preventing too great a vacuum being generated which can damage the vacuum box and cause injury to the operator.
  •
    ELECTRIC PUMP OR COMPRESSOR DRIVEN

  • The vacuum is generated by the use of an electric vacuum pump or by use of an integrated Air Vacuum Generator (AVG) and external compressor. Inspection companies tend to use the electric pump due to its greater flexibility while construction companies tend to use the AVG based systems.
  •
    HIGH AND LOW VACUUM MODELS

  • The vacuum boxes are rated to either 20 inch Hg (10psi/0,7bar) which are recommended for in-services tanks or 10 inch Hg (5psi/0.37bar) which are recommended for new build tanks.
  •
    V750 KEY FEATURES

  • lectric pump, compressor or combined versions
  • High & low vacuum variants
  • Tank bottom and shell to bottom weld inspection models
  • Field proven durability & reliability
  • Integrated LED to maintain correct light level (optional)
  • Higher productivity due to 750 mm length
  • Calibrated vacuum gauge
  • Calibrated relief valve to control vacuum
  • Increased efficiency
  •
    V750 VACUUM BOX TESTING ADVANTAGES

  • Provides an immediate indication visual of the location of any leaks present
  • Can detect small leaks within a given area
  •
    V750 VACUUM BOX TESTING LIMITATIONS

  • Size and orientation of any leaks will have to be analyzed with a secondary NDT method
  •
  • For standard testing surface temperature of the test material must be between 5°C and 50°C. Otherwise, a procedure effective at the temperature range must be demonstrated.
  •
    Vacuum box testing V750 Features

  • Designed to API 650/653 recommendations
  • 750 mm (29.53 in) weld inspection length, improves inspection times and reduces operator fatigue
  • Integrated LED lights provide the required light intensity as specified by API and ASME inspection standards
  • Screen glare and shadows from external light sources are eliminated
  • Calibrated vacuum relief valve ensures the correct vacuum is generated, too high a vacuum can damage the vacuum box and cause injury to the operator
  • Superior build quality with robust cast aluminum body
  • Two-stage seal design to improve initial vacuum, especially on large lap welds
  • Electric vacuum pump or compressor driven
  •
LEAK TESTING / LEAK DETECTION SERVICES

  • We offer leak test services on a contracted basis when investment in instrumentation is not a feasible spend. We work with clients to develop test specifications and carry out leak testing at our site in Nottingham on small batches of parts, on prototypes and where the client may already have leak testing machines in-house that cannot test to specific standards that have been defined. We already have on-site most of the equipment necessary to contract leak test most common parts and we can get hold of additional equipment we might need quickly.
  •
Typically our Clients using our leak test services

  • • A requirement to leak test prototypes as parts of the R&D process.
  • • A prototype sealing system they are developing, requiring leak testing to be cared out as part of the development.
  • • Produced a small batch of parts that will not go into general production and so need one-off leak testing carrying out (Pre production parts)
  • • A requirement to leak test regular batches of small parts but do not want to commit to the expenditure of investing in their own leak test equipment.
  • • A requirement to leak tests a particular product beyond the range or standards of in-house leak test equipment.
  •
  • We are specialists in developing bespoke leak testing solutions for a wide range of industries. Our highly experienced in-house engineering staff can develop and write test specifications and procedures to cover any critical testing requirement.
  •
  • We have standard equipment including a full set of calibrated, traceable leak testing instrumentation (NIST, NAMAS) available for leak testing small quantity batches of parts.
  •
  • The leak testing equipment covers an extensive range of pressures. Typically, leaks of 10 mm3.Sec-1 can be detected using air decay testing and leaks down to 1×10-8 mbar.l.sec can be traced by using helium leak testing.
  •
  • Leak test pressures of up to 1095 bar can be developed on a bespoke service basis. Please enquire for a feasibility study on this kind of leak test service that are normally executed via helium tracer gas testing or differential pressure air decay testing, helium sniffing and spraying.
  •
    Examples of leak test services

  • • Helium leak testing of fabrications
  • • Testing of high performance racing brakes, engine parts and under bonnet
  • • Medical device testing of prototypes
  • • Development of sealing for bottle closures
  • • Pressure and leak testing of machined parts
  • • Exhaust pipe leak testing in singular or small batches for specialist vintage cars
